What is the difference between an Anarkali and a Pishwas?

An Anarkali is a long, flowing kurta — floor-length or knee-length — with a fitted torso and a flared hemline, typically worn over churidar trousers. A Pishwas is a self-contained gown silhouette with an integrated skirt of greater volume. Both silhouettes are created in HBO's Multan workshop using atelier-exclusive construction techniques including Multan Shadow Work embroidery and heavy bodice hand-embroidery.

Zardozi is a centuries-old South Asian metal-thread embroidery technique. At HBO's Multan Atelier, our Master Artisans apply Zardozi by hand onto the bodice of formal Pishwas and Anarkali gowns, using gold and silver threads to create intricate geometric and floral motifs. Combined with our signature Multan Shadow Work — a layered satin-stitch technique — each gown carries between 80 and 300 hours of atelier craft.
